What is "legal" is not always "right"

In 2022, the Southern Baptist Convention initiated a report to investigate sexual abuse allegations among the Executive Committee. After reading the report, I had a few thoughts on leadership--

1. Leaders must be willing to have light shown into every area of leadership. To riff off of the WP, "Godly leadership dies in darkness."

2. Leaders must keep the main thing the main thing, even in crisis. Christ's actions on the cross are instructive (John 19). He provided for His mother; He did the right things even while hanging there.

3. Leaders must live in the tension between "legal ethics" and "moral ethics." The two are not the same. Legal actions do not always equate to moral actions.

4. Leaders have an obligation to care for the defenseless.

5. When we think of ourselves more highly than we ought, leadership dies.
